The new security measures

New security means that if I am logged out I can see the main board interface, but can't actually get into any of the forums.

I'm guessing that new users experience the same.

Would it make sense for there to be a paragraph long intro to bus, viewable to non-members. otherwise how do they get to know about the board before they commit to joining?

i don't think i would hve joined if i couldn't have lurked as a guest for a while before committing myself, seeing what i was letting myself into.

would it make sense for there to be something to reassure/attract newbies, or even just to help them see if this is somewhere they want to be?

maybe you could have the 'before you post' section of the board open to non-members?

then you could post an 'introduction to the board' type topic there.

that along with the 'get to know the board staff' thread might give prospective members a fairly good idea of what they are letting themselves in for when they join.

peace
