Hi disastercake, thank you for sending those welcome PMs.
But..., they were all spammer accounts and have been deactivated.
Jem (as a member of the staff team) has access to what is called the "Spam thread - the next generation" topic on the staff forum - it is where the mods report spammer accounts and the admins zap them. She only sends welcome PMs to members who don't seem to be spammers.
It is fine for you to send "welcome" PMs to new genuine members. I think that all genuine new members would value a message from you

But, before you do that, please check the profile of the new member. Key indicators of a spammer account are:
(1) A random screen-name.
(2) A stupid gender assignation - "male" or "female" are fine but "sausage", "44 year old doof", "Bitch", etc are not.
(3) A Web link to a site which is selling something.
For example, the latest spammer account (which I am about to deactivate) is: Screen-name "VuadUrisa", Gender identity "Bitch", and a link to a dubious Web site.
