hypnotherapy? has anyone tried it?
Just querying if anyone has tried,or heard of hypnotherapy being used to aid in stopping s.i? would love to here comments or theries about this topic.
Self injury is an expression of acute psychological distress. It is an act done to oneself, with the intention of helping oneself rather than killing oneself.
Paradoxically, damage is done to the body to preserve the integrity of the mind.

I haven't actually used hypnotherapy in regards to my si'ing but my T and I used it before he knew about the si'ing in order to help with some of my anxiety stuff. I really enjoyed it, would end up leaving the office feeling a lot more in control of myself, and more relaxed. Only thing I found is like anything else you need to practice what your supposed to or else you end up loosing the skills . (The sad face is b/c I miss the relaxed feeling I'd get from mine, had reached the point where I could do self hypnosis)

It's something i'm very interested in but I'm such a control freak I don't know if I could go under.

You are actually very much in control of it still. That's one of the big things behind it all, is that you will not do anything that you would not normally on some level do. It's kind of hard to explain, but the whole time your doing things you know in your own mind what your doing.

I'm guessing it comes down to trust. Unfortunately I don't have a T, although I'm due a psyche evaluation soon. Maybe they could give me a list of reputable t's.
I'm worried because I have bi-polar so I don't want to risk anything triggering an episode.
Thankyou very much for your imput, you've dfinately given me something to think about. If you think of anything else all info will be greatly recieved.

Ive had hypnotherapy, but not for stopping SI, it was for dealing with anxiety about a specific issue. I really liked it, its really nice actually, you just lie/sit back in a chair, and relax, its like meditating, you are fully aware and in control at all times, so there's no need to worry about that. It definitely helped me with my anxiety problem.

I've tried it, but not to stop SI. I did it to help me get through some hard times, and it really did help. It helped me stay focused and grounded at a time when I would have fallen off the deep end. Everyone so far is right: you remain in complete control while "under" so even if you have trust issues, the person taking you through it *can't* do anything, or make you do anything you wouldn't normally do. I would recommend it to anyone...it helped me enough that I've gotten into self-hypnosis and do it every night to keep me at that "grounded" level. (I'm several months SI free, with only 1 slip up.)
Everything looks perfect from far away.
