Fighting Back against ED! (Please read first post)

Post by Grace_2009 » Sat Dec 27, 2008 9:57 pm

I wanted to start a thread where we could all support each other in our fight against Eating disorders. They can be very isolating so this is a place where we can come together. This is more of a positive thread where we can talk about how we are fighting or how we would like to fight and how people can support us in that fight.

Please in this thread do not write food lists or numbers. Instead of telling us how you are acting on your ED tell us how you are fighting it. What positive actions toward beating your ED are you taking!

Take gentle care all! And Keep fighting!!!

This is such a good idea honey!

This week I've been terrible. But I plan to takme my meds as soon as I wake up tomorrow. It's hit me suddenly that I can't let this consume me again.

Good luck everyone!

I had a snack just now.

And I'm trying to see if I can go back and find something more to eat in spite of the ED thoughts.

This is a weird backwards idea I had, but um... given that I eat less than what people on diet plans do anyway,

Do you think going on a diet diet plan could help me get back to eating more normally?

Because that might be able to trick me into gaining weight and eating more properly, if you see what I mean.

Or is this just my nutty ED self taking over?

lucky-lenny: It certainly is helpful for alot of people to stick to meal plans in the early stages of recovery, so they have an idea of what they shoulod be aiming for. I am reluctant to advise a diet plan though, because thery by thyere very nature are dficient in nutrients and calories. What i would suggest is that you see a dietician/nutritionist, preferably one with ed expereince. They will be able to work with you to find a meal plan that you are comfortable with, but that still involves all the nutrients that your body needs.

Electric prophet: Brillaint links, thanks :) I especially like the coping challenge II

Asher: welldone for having that snack. I hope you were successful in finding something more to eat inspite of ED.

RDS: You are right, you cannot let this consume you. I really hope you were abble to fight off ED and take your meds.

Mandy: Thankyou for starting this thread! Its such a brillaint idea!

So today i was really tempted into doing a fruit and veg detox, but instead i planned to make a special effort into incorporating more fruit and veg into my balanced diet of protein, dairy and complex carbohydrates. It didnt exactly go to plan though, and once again I am tempted to detox tommorrow but I wont because i KNOW that the fruit and veg detox is what ED wants to do. TQ wants to continue with her balanced diet, and thats what I will do.

I'm proud of you Typoqueen :)

I'm struggling in terms of eating today and really tempted to just binge and start over tomorrow but i'm going to try my best not to as binging will only lead to restricting and thats a vicious cycle i don't need to start again.

HI everyone!

Silent End,

I think it is great you are going to try not to binge today and that you recognize it will only lead to restricting. My challenge to you is to think about what positive action you are going to take instead?

TQ,

Good for you about sticking with a balanced diet and adding more fruits and veggies! awesome idea!

Lucky_Lenny,

I agree with TQ. It is always a good idea to contact a nutritionist or dietician!

Electric Prophet,

I saw the other threads I wanted to make it clear that the numbers and food lists were very triggering for me. And the other posts didn't do that! thank you for sharing those with us though, they are a good resource!

Asher,

yay for a snack.

RDS,

Meds sound like a good idea! Keep fighting!

As for me I am staying busy with collaging and drinking supps in between.

Yay for everyone who wrote!

Take gentle care,

Mandy

hi everyone! :wavey:

i think everyone is doing really well in this fight!
me? i went shopping for clothes today (*love*) and i hate fitting rooms, so when i got home, i tried on a skirt and it was a tad too small for me. so i declared - to myself - that i'm going to go back to the shop and exchange it for the next size up

that's awesome! I wish I could be so safe with buying clothes =[

Today my depressive state was being controlled by my ED - I woke up, once again, thinking 'I won't eat a thing today'

But when I looked at the clock and saw I'd slept in until 1.00 I thought - 'It's lunchtime, I really should eat...'

So I did =]

and I didn't cut, I didn't purge, I didn't think 'omigodi'mdisgusting...' I liked it =]

Recently I've been seeing a nutritionist who is helping me make a meal plan, and I've been trying really hard to stick to it because I know I need to start eating healthier.

I've been trying to eat all three meals with snacks in between each meal and a snack at night with my meds. Some days are better than others though but I am making progress.

My quest to get more vegetable and fruits in my diet is not going well. I know i need to try harder but i don't know where to start from

I like this thread, because it gives me the opportunity to support people whos threads are simply too triggery for me to read.

RDS: You did brilliantly with your lunch, welldone!

Zombiepeople: Your determination to try your best really is admireable. Your progress reflects this.

Silent end: Do you have any fruits that you particularly enjoy? Or do you have a particular liking for peanut butter or chocolate. Apples and bananas go veyr well dipped in either, strawberries and pears and yummy with chcolate. How about vegtables? do you have any of those you like? What about making a sauce of tomatoes, red peppers ect and put it over pasta? I love fruits and veggies, parlty becuase i grew up with them so i dont have much trouble but i'm sure there are plenty of recipees that hide vegtables in them. There must be, to help people get them into there children!

Typoqueen: I love vegetables and i like some fruits but i'm more picky about my fruits, my parents have fruits and vegetables in the house, its just about being too lazy to make vegetables, i get more vegetables when i'm at school because i make my own food,a nd when i don't i usually get at least some sort of vegetables when i do eat out. Plus when i start eating vegetables, i tend to stop eating carbs, so don't know how to incorporate vegetables into my diet w/o it turning into me being very restrictive  As far as fruit goes same thing, when i start eating fruits i tend to replace meals w/ them instead of just using them as snacks because i wait too long to eat breakfast and then during a normal lunch period i'd have like fruit instead of a meal...
