Feel Good Things

Post by figment » Wed Jan 30, 2008 12:54 pm

I know similar lists have been made before, but my T wants me to come up with a list of things that make me feel good, to use when urgy or feeling sad, and it seems like a good idea to start one myself. So I thought I'd start one up here, feel free to add on :)

I thought I'd make a list that I can keep in my wallet, so I have it whenever I need it.

Breathing exercises
Drinking Tea
Have a bubble bath
Go for a nice walk
Listen to peaceful/relaxing music (make a playlist, and keep on ipod)
Write down how i'm feeling, save it, and delete it
Make something creative and pretty
Call someone who makes me feel good and talk about random things
Go out for a coffee/tea
Do the "5 things you can see, touch, feel, hear, smell"
Make something healthy to eat that tastes good and takes time to prepare

That's all I've got so far.

Well, I like buying things that I've planned to have. Like going out to find a denim skirt when I know I've wanted one for ages.

Or dyeing/ cutting my hair.

Purchasing a lot of littl pampering things like face masks or deoderant makes me happy too.

Otherwise there are a lot of phrases I repeat to myself in the bad times that really help me.

Like "the best you can do is good enough". That's my ultimate motto, I think.

That's a great idea!! The one thing I've saved on my phone for myself if I ever feel bad is H.A.L.T (it's on my sig) If you don't know already (and if I haven't preached it enough :P) It stands for Hungry, Angry, Loney and Tired. And if I ever feel the urge I make sure I'm none of these first before going to hurt myself, and by the time I've gone to sort out these physical needs, the urges have died down :)

Perhaps just have it in bold and coloured in (Just the H.A.L.T bit) and people will have no idea what it means then :)

CHALT/HALT - I love it, great idea. sometimes i think i forget basic things like that so it's good to have something to remind me.

another thing i do sometimes is make a collage of happy photos, to remind myself that things aren't always bad.

the greatest think i found i could do to help me feel better was keep a little notebook of all the compliments people gave me or nice things they said. That way when i was feeling bad, i could go back and remember those things and how i felt when they said that. That ALWAYS helped me feel better

Crocheting. :D I find the repetitive actions kind of soothing.

I also like going grocery shopping, even if I don't buy anything. Or just going to starbucks and sitting around with a book.
