when i went i/p the first time, my mom was in the emergency room with me, and i had to wear that stupid johnny/robe thing with short sleeves. she saw. i tried covering up with a sheet, but that only did so much. she didnt say anything, but her eyes filled with tears. i overheard her saying on the phone to my older brother that i had tried to kill myself. which wasnt true. at that time, anyway. regardless... i was put i/p by my tdoc for being su. but cutting does NOT = trying to kill yourself, as we all know.
we've never talked about it since. unless you count her giving me sweatshirts and such to cover up my scars if i'm over her house and she has guests.
my sister in law is the only one that actually has talked to me about it, and shown me any respect regarding my problems. she's so cool, i love her to death. funny, she's the only person irl i'm actually close to... hmm...

I voted "Yes, by accident" since there was no "I told them voluntarily" option. I told my mom with the help of my T, and mom told my dad (without my permission, no less >_< ).
Please be gentle with me.

You might consider adding the option "Yes, I told them about it". Believe it or not there are some parents who are supportive and understanding about it.
My mother knows because well.. I couldn't really hide it anymore. I do hide anything fresh, but if she sees by accident it blows up into a huge argument.

I didnt vote because there was no "yes, I told them" option. My parents know because I told them a couple months ago. I was hoping for support and hoping they would help me find a T to deal with this, but none of that worked out... It hasnt been an issue because we dont talk about, and I still lie and say I am fine... It was really scary to tell them, but they took it pretty well.

i don't think my parents know... and i really hope they never will... i want to tell people, but not them... we don't have a normal relationship, so i don't trust them with that kind of information... i mean, when i told them i'd been seeing a T they never ever talked about it again... i even told my mom 6 months before telling my dad and she told me to not tell my dad... so kinda screwed up relationship, telling them about SI would just be way too much...
