im new and need help!

im new and need help!

[color=darkred]hi...im new to Bus...

ok, well, i SI almost everyday( for the past year)...i carry around objects like safety pins and razors just in case...i really do want to stop and i have the support of the friends that know about it.....but....im never sure how to talk about it with them...i dont want to guilt anyone into talking with me about it.....and another problem is i dont know why i cut in the first place....my record for not cutting is only 2 weeks....i feel like a failer....but i really just want some feed back for a few questions:

1. what are some alternatives for SI that dont include talking to friends?
2. Does anyone else cut just to cut....not because they feel bad?
3. Would anyone be interested in talking to me about SI and sharing thier stories?

but i also find it calming to take a shower instead of cutting and i dont cut to cut i cut to feel better about my imotional hert and i got a coupler of questions for you why dont you just try to some on here and talk about the stuff when you feewl like cuting and what is your asl?

i like your shower idea....and yea...that was the reason i decided to join this site. I want to find people who i can relate to to talk about this with....someone who understands and wont just say "cheer up...its easy!" cause its not.....and my asl is 15/f/usa

Well, there's an awful lot of alternatives to SI that people have contributed on this list. If you find any more, tell me so I can add them.

About SIing when you don't actually feel that bad, yeah I have done that too, you are not alone.

BUS is a good place to share experiences and find help. Hope you like it here.

Hi,

Once in a while, it seems I want to SI just because I want to. I usually end up realizing there actually is a reason underneath it all, but I have to do some soul searching to figure out what exactly. Sometimes, especially when I read about SI I just want to do it because I crave the pain, but lately I've been able to just ride it out by counting slowly and listening to a relaxation tape. It's still a struggle, though. I've been SI free for about six weeks, and even now, as I write about it, I crave the feeling. Maybe in your case it's like an addiction. I read that cutting releases endorphins in your brain that make you feel good, and that's why it's addictive. I also read that if you have PTSD, you're more likely to become an addictive cutter because your brain chemistry gets a bit messed up and your brain really craves those endorphins. I don't know, chocolate also releases endorphins but somehow it doesn't work, at least not for me.

Well, I wrote a lot, didn't I? Welcome, by the way. I'm also new, but people here have been wonderful and i'm getting more comfortable. "talk" to you soon!

hi, i'm new here as well, in fact this is my first post!
there are lots of alternatives to SI, although they don't work for everyone. i find writing in a diary really helps me 2 get all my anger out. and yeah i have cut just because i've wanted to before... in fact i've even cut when i've been in a good mood, so you're not the only one who cuts just to cut.

Some ideas I have are......
Use a red marker instead of a razor.
Hold a piece of ice in your hand or wherever on your body you cut.
Put a soft rubberband around your wrist, and snap it if you feel like you need to cut.
I hope some of this will help. I did for a while with me but the Mental pain got so bad I needed more than red marker all over my arms.

hey... i can relate to whate you've said..

1. what are some alternatives for SI that dont include talking to friends?
- i write letters to people. angry ones, sad ones, random nonsense ones, anything to get out my feelings. it helps me to see my emotions because i can't always understand what i'm feeling.
- in my angry moods, i rip up magazines. it helps a lot.
- bubble baths. even if it's hard to look at scars, it can be nice to treat yourself well for a while.
- music. i made a mix for when i'm in really low moods. it's all slow, sad, depressing songs. i have another mix for when i'm angry.
2. Does anyone else cut just to cut....not because they feel bad?
- definately. half the time or more, it's because of that.
3. Would anyone be interested in talking to me about SI and sharing thier stories?
- of course. i'm here if you wanna pm me/e-mail me.

Hi!
I'm new too! But I've been doing this for a long time. One of the things I've found really helps me is creation. I know it sounds wierd, but it works. Writing, music, art, whatever your passion, try that. I've found that if I make something and sort of 'give life' to it, I put my anger, sadness, whatever adverse emotion into it. As a result, I have some awesome artwork and beautiful writing- and no scars!
