Post by SilverStrength » Wed Apr 07, 2004 9:25 pm

i am 15 years old, and i feel like my whole world is crashing down, if cutting myself makes me feel better then why stop? It seems like i can focus better and like i can show everyone exactly how i feel, i write so much better too- its like everything is amplified...why quit? :(

First of all, welcome :wavey:
I'm glad you've found us. And you don't have to want to stop in order to be here - many here are trying to stop, but some aren't, and it's supporting each other through the difficulties that's important.

Well for me, a very important reason was that my SI tends to increase in severity over time. And as the years have passed, it's gone from minor injuries that never required treatment, to now getting that there is a real risk of permanent disability :( But maybe you don't find it increasing like that?

Various other reasons that I haven't time to write now....
but there's a thread on here where others have listed their reasons for wanting to stop:
http://busmail.org/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=29347

Anyway, hope to hear more from you soon.
Take care

Hey Emily!

I know exactly what your going through right now, in fact, I garentee almost everyone on this site feels or has felt a like you. You want some reasons not to cut yourself? I can help with that, or at least try, I've been trying to come up with some for myself, and this is what I've gotten so far, I hope it help you out!

- it hurts your friends to see the marks
- it hurts your parents to see the marks
- you don't want scars for the summer (gotta look good in your bathing suit )
- you are smart enough to realize you have a problem and now you can go out and get help for it
- cuts take time to heal, and during that time they hurt
- when you are better (note the word WHEN) you won't want tons of scars to remind you of when times wern't so great
- when you no longer have marks to hide you can wear any types of clothing

I know that its a small list, its all I've come up with on my own. I hope it helps you out at least a little bit! If you need anything just send me a message, I'm here for you!

:star: it will eventually numb you out
:star: it will become your primary coping mech...eventually if you're sad, you SI, if you're frusterated, you SI, if your too happy, you'll SI, if your bored, you'll SI etc
:star: you're only 15....what about you're wedding day? do you really want to carry all those scars for the rest of your life? being labeled as weird or a psycho...???
:star: whether you like it or not, it will effect your relationships, your ability to function under stress, your ability to focus.....

Welcome to BUS :)

if you look around, there are plenty of posts, especially the sticky ones and in the source book, listing reasons not to SI. Find the ones that you can relate to the most, and write them somewhere so you can remind yourself.

<i>buried deep as you can dig inside yourself
and hidden in the public eye
such a stellar monument to loneliness.
laced with brilliant smiles, and shining eyes
and perfect makeup.
but you're barely scraping by...</i>
