rehab for SIers?

Post by Artemisia » Mon Aug 17, 2009 12:20 pm

i have nooo idea where to post this so it'll probably be moved somewhere. sorry if it's in the wrong place.

Anyhoo, i was thinking, being so urgy and having processed and done all the right things, and still being urgy (grrr) that SIing is so much like a drug, that i wondered if there should be rehab just for SIers. this place is one of the closest things i've found, and i've been to a psychiartic hospital before, but SIing isn't something thgey really deal with or focus on, cos it's stilll new in comparison to other diagnosis-type-stuff. Anyone know if they exist, or think they should? would you like one to exist? i know i would be maybe it's not a good idea...? thoughts? :cowave:

There is not a rehab per se for SI'ers, but the closest thing to it is a program called SAFE Alternatives.

Here's more information: http://www.selfinjury.com/
there is, in the end, the letting go.

Exactly. There isn't always even a SAFE clinic available, nevermind one near your area. I would consider getting help a lot more if there was a place that specialized in si nearby.

You can call around and see if anyone has experience with SI...

I sent them an e-mail once, it was quite helpful. And for me, it's a great altenative to the su hotline, which freaks me out.
However, I've become more and more concerned about the possibility of having to go ip, and I've heard horror stories of what happens to si-ers in some places. I wish there was a way of sorting them out.

I was at a clinic which was not for SI specifically , but for all high-risk behaviour and maladaptive coping mechanism where SI / substance dependency./ EDs were all viewed in the same light: it's all behaviour. They focused more on the feelings and causes of the behaviour and how it impacted on our lives. So I don't think a special rehab for SIers is a bad idea , but that the treatment I received was extremely good and it was not centered around SI. I am sorry that the psych hospital you went to did not deal with SI very much.

It is a really good idea. A lot of us stop, but want to go back to it when thing get tough. It's one thing to quit, but it's also important to find better ways of dealing with whatever makes you tick, otherwise there's the chance of relapse.

poss *rel*

there is a place called mercy ministries http://www.mercyministries.co.uk/
which although is pretty much christianity based, it offers support and a "rehab" for si'ers, as well as people suffering with ed's and other problems such as dealing with depression.
although some people may not agree with their religious approach, they do appear to help.
to be quite honest i think one less specified with religion would be more helpful.
:)
just a suggestion. i'm sorry if i offended anyone i tried my hardest not to

tnx - it's good to knoiw these places exist - but i think i'd struggle with the religious approach too - that's what i wonder about things like AA and NA - they depend on you believing in god - what if yr a staunch atheist - i'm not closed to someone changing my mind - but it seems to leave out a significant amount of ppl who struggle and who do matter... anyhoo tnx love :)

Wish there was one specifically for SI in my state. But I looked only thing I found is SAFE.

It really made me feel sad and hopeless.
