I tend to feel angry and violent when I SI, so I liked the more violent ideas (pillow fight with the wall, that sort of thing). I'll have to try them
Some other things I use:
Throwing rocks at trees, fences, anything not likely to get hurt by the rock. Throw the rock as hard as possible.
Watching violent movies (could be triggery for some, but it's cathartic for me)
ripping up an old magazine or phone book
lifting weights--as many repititions as I safely can
eating/drinking anything strongly flavored, but especially something sour or spicy
putting a lot of care into making or drawing something, and then violently destroying it

You know...some of those make so much sense, and I never would have considered some of them as an alternative...not on my own anyway! Thanks! You know, the "writing yourself a love letter" really stuck out to me because I don't think I could do it. I realized in that shining moment of horror, I don't know how to love myself. I just want to self-destruct all the time. Maybe the first step to loving myself is to draw on myself with a red marker...at least I'd be good to me then.

thanxs heaps for that awsome list. i can find a fair few things there that'll help me. especially the foodcolouring one, what a great idea. you're my saviour! usually when i'm frustrated, anxious or going to SI, i throw stuff & as a result the walls of my room have a couple of dints, well maybe more than a couple, so I'm going to get together a heap of pillows, teddy's instead.

I like idea 151 renaming the animals! I dont know where the closest zoo is. Probably Toronto so its a bit far for me. lol. How bout change all the street names. Once though (and this is a little mean) I gave someone wrotne directions on purpos. Sent them towards Brantford instead of east hamilton, LOL

Just wanted to add to the list...my stuff is kind of dorky, but it works for me lol
Years ago my grandmother gave me all her old cooking magazines and recipes and I also have several other cookbooks, and if I am feeling like I might si I will go through them until I find something I want to make...i find baking very theraputic, its very distracting and even if I can't concentrate on anything else, i can usually concentrate on that. I can't eat what I make (thats a whole nother issue though) but I love bringing it to friends/family/work
also, and this one is REALLY dorky...I will check out my friends myspace pages...look at the new pictures, listen to their music, leave nice comments...it makes me feel better and who doesn't like having a "you rock" comment on their myspace page...plus I get to check out a lot of new music

I looked the song up on youtube and it's so funny. Defs worth checking out.Deskana wrote:For some wierd reason this helps me.
Whenever I get down I listen to "Frontier Psychiatrist" by The Avalanches. If I sing along, I go into hysterics! Yesterday I was ready to commit suicide, and was going downstairs to do it, and then this came on my playlist. And I started singing! And I laughed so much! I couldn't think of anything else! Download it and try it!
And thanks for the list Cath, for some reason, whenever I eat chocolate instead it tastes much better than it normally does! Thank you!
