Does Anyone Else Have Rules?

Post by Sjenna » Thu Apr 05, 2007 2:24 pm

Some really great coping skills listed in this forum. I have a kind of 'rule' that prevents me from SIing more than I might (if I didn't have the rule)

I am not allowed to SI again until my current ones heal. I really can't come up with a reason I made that rule, it just is. Probably some OCD thing of mine.

And.... Once a bit of time goes by, like a couple of minutes for a 'breather' I can't make another cut, or make the ones I just did deeper.

Am I weird, or does anyone else have rules that help them 'regulate' how often and how much?

I do the same thing. Im not allowed to cut again until my other ones heal. youre not weird. I think we all have certain "rules" that we follow when it comes to si.

I'm kind of like that too! I won't allow myself to cut until my other marks have healed completely otherwize it really bugs me and I feel like I failed at something huge. It's somewhat annoying, but it keeps me from SIing more than I already do I guess.

I had never thought about rules but I do have them. The most important one is not to SI if I know for sure I am going to be in a situation where someone will see my arms (my area of choice).

Made a mistake though. Had to go for a health screening for a new job. I tried to will the scars to heal. No luck but thankfully the nurse was kind and understading and I believe it will go no further. major relief!!

If my blades are dull, I won't SI until I can get new ones. I hate having to use dull blades. I also don't SI if I have to take my blades out of their "case." If I don't have something on hand that I prepared earlier, I won't do it.

That said, the rule isn't followed very strictly. If I'm really upset, I'll SI with anything I have available.

The only rule I have really is that I won't SI if there is a chance I am caught. Sounds weird but that's it

I guess it's a good thing we have rules. It kinda helps reduce the SH.

I don't know if this is a rule or more of a compulsion, but I can't overlap old scars. which is weird, because I almost always crisscross current ones, but I can't touch the old ones.

The more contructive rules I've been trying to set out for myself are talking to someone or writing before I'll SI. But this only works if I can make myself do that...
