PS... I read thru the entire list again, visualizing this time around, and noticed another one that's perfect for me... #71 Bark Stripping.

I have very fair skin, and at an early age, started peeling at sunburns. Did it real slowly, kinda like peeling an apple, see how long a piece you could get in one pull.

And I like the outdoors, it's SO much more peaceful there, so now I can go for a short walk, sit under a tree, and pick up a stick and a little rock.

I can easily scrape and peel and pick and rub, until it's smooth as glass, and never have it trigger anything in my mind but a sense of soothing patience.

So thanks again, great list. Later.

Hi,
Wow that was a brilliant list, I've printed it out, some of them have to work!

I haven't read them all yet so apologies if this is already on the list. It's been a good while since I cut, but I think it helps to take it day by day and week by week.

I bought some really thin beaded bracelets, threaded on sort of elasticated string. You usually get thim in bundles of about 10 or 15. On monday I'll put one on, and then at the end of the day, I'll say, 'ok, you made it through that difficult day' and put another one on. And so on as the week progresses. At the end of the week I take them all off and start again.

It's like a physical 'getting through the week' strategy, and also, because they're elasticated and have beads on them, you can snap them on your wrist, like the elastic band idea, and it hurts.
Just an idea, this is one of the only ones that has ever worked for me, I hope it helps.

Thanks for the list. I'll use some of them when the next urge hits.
The only problem I have though, is with the 'tools' thing- I use my fingernails.
What can I do for that?

Thank you sooo much! i needed that so bad, i was thinking about it. those were awsome ideas! i made a folder about myself(because a lot of my friends dont know about my problems) and when i feel upset i write about it and keep it in the folder. i draw doodles of quotes or poems i like. or try and help a friend, seeing them smile makes me feel better.

Thanks again for the list, it helped sooo much :)

At the begining of the school year my social studies teacher took us all out to the river. He handed us each a few marshmallows and had us invision all our problems and troubles in the marshmallow, squish them into it if you want. Then one, or if we wanted two, at a time we walked onto the bridge, threw the marchmallows into the water, and walked over the bridge. Our troubles were washed away and we crossed over the bridge so we could move on. It was actually really moving.

This is a good list. I think it's probably helpful in dealing iwht my other unhealthy coping mechanisms, too.
