A question about SI during sleep

Post by Chocoboko » Sat May 22, 2004 1:54 am

I have heard stories of people who go to bed feeling upset and wake up with cuts on themselves that they don't remember doing. Is it possible that people can cut in their sleep? What causes people to cut in their sleep and is there anything that can be done to prevent it?

I just read stories about that and I am a bit curious. Hopefully you people can tell me more about it.

Well, I cuss people out in my sleep, so I'm sure it's possible.

One time, I sat up in bed (I'm in a dorm w/ a roommate/best friend), and said, "Don't you ever get off the fucking computer?!??"

I don't remember this btw.

I also go on long cussing streaks to particular people, apparently. I also don't remember that.

Well, I think it can be possible, because I have been known to bite myself while I am asleep. I haven't done it in a while, but I remember waking up with teeth marks on my arm when I was 10. Anything's possible.

I can't say I've ever woken up with cuts on myself... but I know I do throw myself at the wall in the night... so I sleep walled in by pillows.
Through early morning fog I see.. visions of the things to be....

I find it kind of funny, I find it kind of sad - the dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had.

I shut my eyes and all the world drops dead
I open them and all is born again.
(I think I made you up inside my head.)

0 days.

well, i have cut myself in the middle of the night and had trouble remembering exactly how or with what. i have panic attacks and sometimes i cut while i'm in some sort of a panic attack, or dissociating or something. and i can't remember it afterwards. so yes, it's possible.

some people who are accident prone and who sleepwalk can also get cuts in their sleep i guess, depending on what they walk into? i know i've gotten my fair share of bruises from sleepwalking.

I wake up with a bloody lip sometimes, or with my fist clenched really tight. Once I woke up to see I was pinching my arm pretty hard. I dunno why this happens...

Just want to say that, if you do self-harm while you're sleeping and it has happened multiple times in a fairly short space of time, please consider discussing it with a doctor or a sleep clinic, because it may be a symptom of a sleep disorder which needs to be treated.

I don't know if it was SI during my sleep, but once I woke up and went to do my paper round, and the guy at the shop told my my head was bleeding, and I had blood all over the side of my head, but I never thought of it like this before. I don't undestand how it could of happened.
