Signs of infection - *spoiler* burn description

Post by Wednesdays » Wed Apr 12, 2006 3:21 am

Does anyone know if body aches are a sign of infection? I thought there was a list of infection symptoms in sourcebook but I can't find it, and I feel like crud so I thought I'd just ask.

I have a fairly large full thickness burn that's about 3 weeks old and I'm just a little worried cause just in the last couple of days I've been feeling really unwell. Of course it might be nothing to do with the burn.. I hope not.. but I can't just go to a doctor and check it out so I gotta worry instead.

I've had some chills but not all the time, and my temp. isn't very high.. mostly just I'm aching all over. The burn is gross of course.. smelling and oozing a lot but that's cause the black part hasn't come off yet, it's just breaking away at the edges. I'm taking good care of it.. I've done it before.. but there's still the part under the black dead part where you can't clean yet.

Anyway, does anyone know if body aches are a sign of infection?

aching can come from the toxins released by microorganisms but it isnt a 100% way of diagnosing an infection

You need to go get that checked out. It sounds like it's infected, especially if it smells and is oozing.
there is, in the end, the letting go.

please get that checked out.

anything that makes you feel generally unwell has the potential to be infection spreading.

not to scare monger, but infection that spreads systematically in the worst case scenario can lead to septic shock.

it's really important to get it checked by a doctor.
no one's out to judge you there.

anything above 37 degrees celcius is a fever.
general unwellness can also signify systematic spread.

maybe its just stress but maybe its the infection
dont take any chances?

Here's a link to one thread: How to treat a burn

This one: Cuts and burns treatment information resource seems to be being updated, and I couldn't see anything about burns on it.

I'd go with everyone else and say get it checked out - you can always fib about how the burn was caused.

I'd be concerned about it smelling... Depending on where the burn is, can you immerse it in salted water - if you can immerse it, the water will get to more parts than you can clean with just, say, cotton wool....

That works for me...

But like everyone's said... seeking medical advice would be the best option... you don't have to say you did it intentionally!
