If you need help coping telling someone is a good idea especially if you have having su thoughts. Could you try listing all the pros and cons of telling your Mum or anyone else you might want to confide in? It might help makes things clearer for you.

i'm not sure what to say, i'm sorry you're having such a hard time. break ups really hurt. but i know you have the strength to make it thru. just take it slow. maybe call a friend to talk about it? you don't have to talk about cutting (unless you want to), just about the breakup and all that. that's what friends are for!! and mom's can be good for that too.

i'm thinking of you.

It sounds like you're having a really tough time at the moment. Breakups are hard to deal with, but you can deal with it.

I really like Emily's suggestion of talking to a friend or your mom about it. It can make such a huge difference just to be able to get things out in a safe place.

What can you do to make sure you stay safe while you're hurting so much?

hey
i said yes, but i dont strictly mean that you should tell your mum. i think it would be a really good idea to tell someone about it, even if it isnt your mum. especially if you are having su thoughts.
i know what it's like to want help but be scared to seek it. it sounds like you are going through a tough time and i think it would probably help you to go to someone you trust and ask their advice, or ask for help.

are you having trouble with what their REACTIONS would be, or how the WORDS will come out on your end?

if you want to talk to them, prepare yourself. here are some strategies:

put yourself in a safe place. breathe. calm down. follow the list of coping strategies that are stickied on here. write out your feelings. take some tea if you are so inclined. but put yourself in a safe, non-destructive and drug-free place.

write yourself a script. this is especially good if you're having problems getting the words out. you can start with things like "mum, i have something i need to tell you..." or "mum, i have something that i think you should know..." when you do tell your mum, try to not do it at a stressful time. set a time in advance if you have to so you can prepare, and do it in a quiet space so that neither you nor your mum's attention is distracted.

print out some information. selfharm.net is a good place to get information on self-injury in an easily digestible format. not only will this provide facts and context to what you are saying, but also won't leave your mum in a place where she's confronted with this (to her) horrible situation that she knows absolutely nothing about. if you feel safe with her here, recommend the friends and family board to her.
there is, in the end, the letting go.

I found that the easiest way to tell my mom was to write her a letter and that worked out pretty well. It usually helps to tell someone, but many people won't follow up on it unless you mention it or they see something. They'd rather not talk about it unless they have to.
At least that's my experience... It depends on the person you want to tell. if you've thought of telling her that probably means you want her to know on some level and that's reason enough.

Thanks

I think it depends on whether you have a good relationship with her. From my experience, telling my mum about my si etc made things hell. But if you think she would support you, then do. If you don't think you can tell her, is there anyone else you can?

Take gentle care,
