Completely Freaking Out

Post by Shattered_Amethyst » Wed Nov 09, 2005 10:32 pm

Okay,

In my speech class, we have to do a speech on a mental health disorder or something a bit related to it.

Anyway, I chose to do a speech on SI, and use my personal experiences in it...

I have to give the speech next Wednesday, and it's too late to back down or change topics....

I really don't know what to say, without giving away too much of my story...

Do you have to draw from your personal experiences/ include your story?
Or can you just use more general information from the internet and maybe include just some of your thoughts about si (in general) or incorporate your own experience in a more general way, without sharing that it is necessarily you.
As in: People use si for a variety of reasons including (___).
If you need to include an example/experience, can you even use your own but change it so it sounds like a story you found online?
Good luck! :clover:

I agree with Alethea. Perhaps are you concerned because its a subject that is too close to you. If you do not want to give away too much then I would stick to more general information.

You most likely have a lot to bring to the topic without sharing too much about yourself. After all you know SI from the inside so you can put a fair bit of context around the stuff that is in publication even without stating that this is how you feel.

Perhaps statements like many who suffer with SI feel .... or common thinking patterns for SI are .... Characteristics of SI are ... All of these are ways that you can use your personal experiences to great effect and not give away too much.

Hope this helps. Take care...

Couldn't agree more w/ the people above. If this is an OO (original oratory) peice then you can be as general and vague as you'd like, you can even make up a person to attach your feelings and actions on to. I did OO in high school, and one of my first peices was on being a cutter. I wish I still had that paper but I lost it reformatting my iBook.
Its only a matter of time til the clock stops...

thank you guys....

You see, I wanted to explain SI from a cutter's point of view, so I think I'll make up a person to use.

Thanks so much!
