I have recently been trying to find out what kinda foods are classed as 'happy foods'. Im not on medication but want to find a more healthier way to help my body feel better. I know that brown rice is a 'happy food' and kiwis and bananas are good sources of potassium (which we women need every month).

Does anyone else know of any 'happy foods'?

I think there's something in chocolate...but maybe it's just psychological

chamomile tea is very calming and soothing, a are many hot drinks

There are mild "drugs" in chocolate.

Carbs can make people happy temporarily, but make sure to eat some protein, too, otherwise you'll crash later.

Healthy diets in general (fruits and veggies, not too much fat, etc.) often help.

Stay away from turkey, because it has something in it that will make you sleepy. Unless, of course, you're having problems sleeping or need to calm down... then eat it by all means.

Something I found on another site that I thought might be helpful/interesting:

"In addition to sugar, caffeine and fat, chocolate contains more than 300 different constituent compounds, including anandamide, a chemical that mimics marijuana's soothing effects on the brain."

Spicey foods increase the body's production of endorphins (like chilli peppers). Mexican and Thai food is usually very spicey *and* yummy.

pineapple is meant to have serotonin or cause the body to release serotonin or something like that ;)

tryptophan is the chemical in turkey (and other foods) that makes us sleepy.

bananas!!!!! honestly, they have lots of serotonin which makes you happy. i have a banana in the morning, one at lunch and one at tea and it feels like it works.

sometimes I get *very* bored during my lunch breaks and wind up reading Complementary Medicine Magazine (I work in a pharmacy part time!).

Apparently fish and nuts are fantastic.
Not too sure about the fish, as am vegetarian. Nuts I find do have a very marginal influence...but definitely not one to be over-eaten as can upset the tummy.
