Post by everythingends666 » Thu May 05, 2005 11:54 pm

Hey guys! my friend thinks that supporting me means encouaging me. how can i explain to her what supporting me really means, cuz i dont think i even really know. i have other friends that also SI and are more supportive, but its kinda like that quote, "What do you do when the only person that can make you stop crying is the one that made you start?" except with cutting. ~jessica

Support can come in lots of different ways. Encouragement is one form.

What kind of support do YOU need from your friends now ?

But how do you define being there for you ?

spending time with you ? being available to talk ? telling you they care ?

The more you can specify, to them, what you want in terms of support, the more they'll be able to give it to you.

I know for me I let the person know how I need help at that moment and it seems to work the best. Like I may approach someone was a request of a hug or say I need to talk could you listen. It seems to work out best for me........ Maybe that helps maybe it doesn't

the kind of support i need is just for her to be there for me, let me know that they care about me and take care of me. but her idea of support is to encourage me to cut.
