how to deal with numbness? *trigs*

Post by nirvana » Sun Jan 16, 2005 4:50 am

hey... i think i remember a post about this before, but couldn't find it. so i'm posting again. sometimes i go through periods of time where i don't feel anything (emotionally) except anger, because that becomes physical for me. like for the past few days, i havn't felt happiness. or sadness. just emptiness and anger.

normally when i feel numb, i have to do something physical to get rid of the feeling. like working out, si'ing, or having sex. it makes me feel alive. but right now i'm injured, and i can't work out. i havn't si'd in a while, and want to last a little while longer. and sex isn't a good option.

i dunno... how do you guys cope with feeling numb? or do you have any suggestions? thanks in advance.

xxx tara.
i thought i was a fool for no one, but baby i'm a fool for you.

Hey there hon. I'm sorry you're feeling numb atm. I know that it's a terrible feeling, especially when you feel like you can't get rid of it. I find that snapping a rubberband against wherever you usually SI is a way to help not feeling so numb. Hmm...another way that helps me is by taking an ice cube and holding it in my hand tightly and letting it melt. The cold will make you feel something, if anything. I'm sorry if these don't help, Tara. PM me if you want to talk. I'm always here for you :)

Take gentle care,

Screaming. Making yourself cry. Journalling.

I don't have hugely bright ideas - the only way I get through it is by riding it out.

Perhaps one day this too will be pleasant to remember

I go through the same thing, exactly! <hugs>

A lot of that numbness/anger is what prompts my self injury. I am not really sure what to do about it... but i'm here if you ever want to talk.
