Alternative to SI - safe pain response

Post by soulstory » Wed Aug 25, 2004 9:00 pm

I have heard a lot different ideas on alternatives to SI (behaviors that allow the person to get the desired response without actually harming their bodies). Honestly, I never tried any of those alternatives (bright, huh? ) But the other day, I ended up stumbling onto something that just might work for the times when I would normally SI for pain.

Have you ever used Listerene? (I'm not sure if other brands are as strong) That stuff is intense!!! It burns my mouth and tongue while at the same time, destroying plaque and tarter and other gross mouth bugs... cool, huh? I don't know if it would hurt as much for everyone, but you could try it. You're supposed to keep it in your mouth for 30 seconds. Give it a try and let me know if it works for anyone else.

I hadn't thought of it as an SI alternative, but yes I find it hurts too - I never manage to go the whole 30seconds unless I dilute it, which it says you're not meant to do.

Thanks for the idea :)

Ya thats a good idea. I think i might have heard of some, but not that one. For example use a tooth brush to replace whatever you cut with. And it helps cause you don't actually cut, it just feels as if you are. Please don't go use a tooth brush to hurt yourselfs anyone, cause the whole point is that you don;t actually hurt yourself. Cause i'd feel really bad. I think that may be the same idea.

haha.. yeah i tend to do that anyway... dont know why but sometimes il just get up stick some listerine in my gob and see how long i can swill it around for. I find it fun for some reason.

never actually tried it as a si alternative though!

That's a cool idea. Never thought of it.

Sometimes i find that if i catch the urge before it gets too bad that popping something really sour into my mouth works. Don't know if it would work for anyone else and it doesn't even work for me if i'm feeling tooooo bad.

I used to eat those giant fireball candies when I needed a pain reaction. But now they don't hurt anymore  They still taste good, though
