My whole life right now is volunteering. I am a volunteer firefighter. It's just as time consuming as a job but I don't get paid. Almost every evening I have training or meetings and I wear a pager so when that goes off I run to get on the ambulance. It's great. I'm certified as an interior firefighter and an EMT-CC. I'm trying to get a job with the ambulance sevice in our neighboring city. I am almost a paramedic now and I love what I do.

i put 'other', cos i did my work experience in a nursing home for people with mental illnesses, and i went back there a while ago saying i'd like to volunteer if they wanted me to. they took my number and said they'd have to clear it with the manager, but never got back to me :( the people there were soooo nice though, i loved doing work experience there. i got kinda attatched to the people there though...

also, i will be doing some next summer. i'm going on a world challenge expedition to venezuela, and we spend a week or two (out of 4 weeks) doing a community project there which should be good. we're going to be working in a school or building something in a village, somthing like that. should be fun :)

oh, and also i go to st john ambulance, which is volunteer work, cos you go out on duty in case people get injured at a football match or a fair or something...thats good, cos you learn first aid (always useful) but the duties are v boring....we sat for 7 hours at one and NOTHING happened apart from a load of people from school laughing at us in our uniforms....lol.
but you get to meet a lot of cool people there, and learn useful stuff, and you get to have fun too, so thats a good thing to do.
you havr to pay to go to the training sessions though, usually not much, at my unit its only £1 per week.

I helped with the cleaning hundreds of oiled Penguins and other
birds that had become oiled due to the sinking of the "Treasure" off the West Coast.

I found it very rewarding.

In South Africa, SANCOB is a big deal and I actually felt pretty good to be apart of it.

yeah i volunteered here! i guess you could call that e-volunteering.

i used to do some other stuff as well for red cross and environmental stuff but don't really have the time anymore. i could make the time i guess but my job's really draining, when i do have time i fall in a heap and can just watch TV!

i said yes but not anymore.

in high school i volunteered at the hospital doing all sorts of stuff.
when i worked in the nursing homes, (from age 18 and onward) i'd play the piano at christmas time so the residents could have something fun to look forward to.
i've helped out at my kids' schools but tend to avoid their classroom except for fieldtrips etc cuz i think they're uncomfortable w/me in there. *shrugs*
i'd like to start helping out at the humane society...in fact i plan on calling them tomorrow.

I used to tutor people in math, but that was back in middle and high school, and college.
