Things to do instead of SI

Post by ~Vincent~ » Wed Aug 11, 2004 10:54 am

When do you most feel the urge to SI? when your sad? When your angry? Maybe even when your happy? There are different reasons why different people SI, not everyone is the same. For me it is stress, when i cant deal with it i Si and then end up feeling guilty for what i have done. But what if you didnt have to SI eveytime you had these feelings. What if you could do something else.
It might be easier to say it rather than to do it, but after a while it gets easier. Next time you are stressed/Angry/Sad try not to think of harming yourself. Try to keep busey, listen to music (happy music tho), for those with a poetic streak write, draw, find a hobby ( horse riding, football, hocky ect), stay with friends ( maybe you wont SI infront of them and therefor you dont do it), stay in a busey place, talk to somebody about it ( if you talk to somebody about doing it, then maybe you wont need to do it), read, sing, do houswork for your parents ( it may sound boring but it takes your mind of everything else doesnt it), watch T.V, watch a DVD/Video, Go to a beauty salon and pamper yourself ( for the girls), go shopping ( fun fun fun !) ect.
Just do something that will take your mind of things. I personally ring my friends and stay with them as long as i can, untill the need to SI has subsided and i can be alone again. In the end of it all SI destroys your body, you are left with scars emotionally aswell as physically. So to quit while your ahead is a good idea dont you think? start off slowly and eventually you wont need to SI at all

I don't wanna stop. I just am addicted to it at this point. I know I'm alive when I SI. I can feel pain. I know that I am human. I remember that i am mortal. Yet I still want it to end.
My shadows the only one that walks beside me
My shallow hearts the only thing that's beating
Sometimes I wish someone out there
will find me
'Till then I'll walk alone

Thanks for those ideas. You'll find some more strategies for dealing with the urge to SI in the Sticky topics at the top of this forum.

For me it's not always as simple as just distracting myself until the urge passes. The times that are really hard are when I feel I don't deserve not to SI, and will feel guilty if I go and do something else instead.

I do want to stop, in fact I am stopping - as my sig says, I'm over one year free now. But I'd never pretend that it was easy to stop even if you don't "enjoy" it, or that distraction techniques are the whole answer - it may be more helpful to find ways of not getting into such as state that you want to SI in the first place.

Anyway, welcome to the board :wavey: I hope you find it helps you.

I needed either an 'I don't know' and an 'other' because I do sometimes, and other times I don't. So, it's confusing.
