Hobbies
With no college, no full time job, the boyfriend out of the picture and my best mate in America - and most of my other mates working fulltime(and therefore unavailable during the day)/ broke / scattered all over teh country. Also I can't get drunk or do other similar activities *hem* so basically there are also certain friends I can't be around, because it is all they do.
well... I'm bored and have nothing to do. My hobbies seem to have dissolved over the year through alchohol, socialising, boyfriend and far far too much work, so I've forgotten how to amuse myself. I'm going stir crazy and as bob geldof said "Boredom is the gateway to depression"
What do you guys do for fun?

I cross stitch too. It seems to calm me down sometimes when I'm agitated. And when I'm bored, it easily fills time. Also good on sleepless nights. It's quite easy to learn, and you can make really beautiful pictures. I have no artistic ability whatsoever, but cross stitching lets me feel like I do. You can get kits that have everything you need, plus instructions inside of them on how to do it, at almost any craft store or even Walmart.
Oh, just thought of something else, latch hook kits are nice and easy too. I have a couple of those started that I need to drag out an finish.

*Adds to the knitting subliminal message* Knitting isn't just granny stuff anymore - and it's really easy. Hooray for knitting! If you go to the Kittyville website, there's a pattern for a hat with cat ears!littlethings wrote:*LEARN TO KNIT*

Penpalling is great too - you feel all lovely when you send or recieve something in the mail that isn't a bill, and is friendly words from someone else who cares!
Drawing stuff is also another hobby...you don't have to show anyone, and you can play with it on the computer or else in RL. I love playing with gel pencils on black paper, and trying to draw pictures based on the picture in my head of a book character.
Read. Libraries are free (unless you do what I did and run up massive overdue fees...) and many cities/towns also have a writers centre, organised book groups, or similar activities advertised in the library.
Get involved with amateur theatre (or professional!). If you don't like performing, being backstage is really, really fun...let me tell you, it will make you TOTALLY not bored, but really rather awfully busy. Generally you don't need any prior experience for local theatre companies, or schools.

Things I do:
Waste time online (which is very bad for me and I really need to cut down...)
Play my clarinet.
Read (I have a huge list of books to get through, so I should do this far more.)
Swim (good for me, and exercise helps with depression!)
Write for and maintain my website (I need to do more of this.)
Listen to music.
Cook. Cooking rocks
Make barcelets (either thread ones or bead ones.)
I know there was something else but it's flown out of my head
This thread has inspired me to take up cross stitch again. I'll have to look for a kit next time I'm shopping.

I used to love knitting and cross stitch and making bracelets when I was younger, maybe I should take them up again...and the kitty ears thing sounds fun I think gobbolino's charges £20 for a kitty ear hat! ooh and Isaw this really nice wool in hobbycraft, snowflake yarn (apparently gets used in falls by some people) that's really fluffy and soft, i've eben dyign to do something with it. Also it's lots of fun to wear bracelets you have made yourself.
Going to the libarary is always good, it's calm and quiet (plus it's where the books live) and I've just finished three books, one of which was william gibson, a great author, so I need to get more.
Things are looking up a little; I've been trying to remember what I find fun; so I'm going over my mates tomorrow and he's gonna help me dye my hair and hang out for a bit; always good cos I haven't seen him for ages; My friend dave invited me out this evening (I can't go cos I've bought extension hair and a pair of swears and I'm owed money grrr, but it's nice to be asked) and I've been listening to punk again. so many peeps moan about how commercial rancid and greenday are but who cares??? they're fun.
I've been getting into painting for fun again and I'm doing a housewarming/birthday pressie painting for a mate which is giving me something to focus on. Chatrooms are not a good idea for me - I spend FAR too much time on the internet as it is! Swimming would be great but i'm far too self conscious about my chest size - i'm a 36d and whiel I don't mind on the beach cos everyone's the same wearing a bikini in the pool would feel so weird. mayeb I should invest in a good old fashioned swimming cossie....
anyway guys, thank you for all the suggestions and if anyone's got anymore, bring it on!

That's the link to the kitty hat, and a devil hat Nice and warm and comfy...I wear mine walking the doggie in the mornings (It's still freeeeezing here).
I bought some new yarn called "Heathers" to make a cardigan...it's got cabling on it *eep*. I learned the hard way that I don't wear anything I make out of really chunky yarn, and I'm slowly making more ladylike things. Bah, ladylike!

Anyway, my friend made me one of the kittyville hats during a knitting binge. The woman who made the pattern contributed to one of my favorite knitting books. The book's name is Stitch and Bitch, but I don't remember the name of the editor. There are some really great patterns in that book (I recommend the alien scarf).

I love to knit too. Mittens are my specialty. I made a pattern for monster mittens, they are really cute, they have eyes and spikes along the back, and teeth! I can try and post the pattern if anyone is interested, but I would have to write it out first, it's just in my head. I can also try and post a picture of them if anyone is interested.

Writing is good. Doesn't always have to be like you're trying to write a novel. Maybe journal. You'd be surprised how much you can write and how much time has passed!

i don't think anybody's suggested this one yet...
how about volunteer work?
it can keep you nicely busy, but not too busy, you'll never even believe how much you can learn from it, it's loads of fun if you chose to volunteer at a good place, you can meet some awesome people, and you help people while you do it.
i have to get 150 hours of community service for my school; they gave me 2 years to get it, and i got it in 3 months. now i volunteer simply because i enjoy it.
