i'm broke, so i don't go shopping, but i do throw a quarter in a jar every time i need to reward myself, and then spend that money on something fun eventually.

meditation works great for me.
there's an author (a vietnamese buddhist monk) named Thich Nhat Hanh, who has a lot of good meditations to focus on. He's written a bunch of books, you can usually find them at any big book store.

it's a good way to get started anyhow.

oh yeah, baking is the best. particularly baking bread, because you get to punch the crap out of the dough, which always makes me feel better.

i'd keep the topic in the open. don't be afraid to ask about her injuries. maybe consider getting her some outside help like a counselor. spend time with her (we tend to si more when we're alone). and don't forget to take care of yourself too!
