Slight O/T - Alternative to Photoshop?

Post by snowangel_03 » Fri Aug 12, 2011 12:17 pm

I've become quite the tumblr addict of late, and I have some gifs on my Photobucket account that I'd love to add text to. I've been told that Photoshop is the way to go but I can't afford it. Does anyone know of a free to download alternative? I've got gimp, but when I've used it for picture edits it's confused me so I end up using paint instead. I've just tried gimp to edit a gif and it works the same as paint; it's just an image.

TIA.

You can try downloading a free trial of Photoshop? I'm pretty sure you can do that straight off the Adobe site and that way you still get to use it but don't have to pay the price for it. And when your trial runs out see if you can do it again.

in gimp you can add layers and then flatten them again, so you can try out different fonts or locations for text before saving. imo it's the best alternative to photoshop. other than that - for pretty simple edits i use irfanview and for icons/banners/text i use inkscape.

maybe you could use an online graphics editor, although i'm not sure of the best one(s).

for really simple stuff (like just adding different text effects) i use picnik.com.

I think it's called GIMP, it basically is free photoshop if I'm remembering correctly, it's what my mom and her bf use.
I think you can download it for free online, correct me if I'm wrong (and yes it's legal)
