the problem with smilies on the "more smilies" page not putting code in the posting box seems to be a known issue with this release. it only happens in ie; it doesn't see to happen in firefox. it apparently may not be happen in ie 8 if you have compatibility mode turned off.
according to their bug tracker, it's fixed and ready to be released in a minor bug fix release. those updates don't really affect anyone on the board and are usually invisible to users.
the issue with the size of the smilies on the "more smiles" page is harder. i'm working on it. i'm hoping there's a way to tell that page not to resize them.
