After.. BEATING an Urge

Post by pelagic » Wed Jul 08, 2009 1:56 pm

How do you beat your urges? Examine how you beat the last one so it can help you beat the next one.
I turned up the music, I spoke to the pets, I drew, I read, I talked to friends, I waited it out, I did it!!

Did I identify what feelings were leading me to want to SI?
Yes
If Yes - What were they, and how did I figure them out?
Apathy, uselessness, a general hopeless feeling, almost a..boredom
I muttered aloud words that suited my emotional state

What coping skills did I use to deal with these feelings?
I socialized, I distracted myself, I connected with animals, I reconnected with creativity

Were these coping skills the most effective I could have used?
In an empty household, yes

If No - What coping skills got me through?

Why do I think they worked?
They halted the boredom, they made my mind and hands busy

How can I deal with these feelings more effectively next time, before the urge to SI sets in?
Draw everyday, stop withdrawing into myself (get out there and talk to friends daily!).
