Has anyone tried EFT before?

EFT stands for Emotional Freedom Technique.

I used to see and EFT therapist and I found her immensely helpful but unfortunately too expensive.

EFT is basically a system where you talk about your worries while tapping on certain points of your body.

It's supposed to be a powerful healing tool, it's supposed to make your feeling that you've tapped on disappear for good if you do it properly, it's based on acupuncture and uses the same points. It's not approved as actually doing these things by the medical community and I'm sceptic that it really helps in that way at all but it is a very good therapeutic and calming technique that encourages you to run through your worries and problems in a positive way.

You tap, state your problem like "Even though.. [whatever you want to deal with], I am okay.

You then repeat it, going into more detail as you go on and the more detail you can go into he better. You can stop whenever you like and go back to it.

You can change the final bit to whatever you like, I'm okay is a very good one. The first one I was told was "I completely love and accept myself / I completely love and forgive myself" but it feel that's a bit too much for me. You should think of something positive, I do like the accepting and forgiving part.

You also have to drink lots of water, "to flush the negative feeling out of your system". Never a bad thing.

Here's the site explaining how to use it: http://www.emofree.com/

You may wish to take some of the information with a pinch of salt. I have heard of people who say they have completely healed themselves using this technique so take it as you wish.

See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emotional_ ... Techniques and links therein for a sceptical account of the supposed benefits of EFT (and its predecessor, Thought Field Therapy).

^ Don't get me wrong I'm a sceptic, I wasn't promoting the claims as fact. As I said though, I don't think the inaccuracy of the claims of it's all healing powers affects the value of it as a therapeutic coping technique.
I myself don't believe it works in the way EFT specialist believe it does.

I think it often gets pushed to the side when there is a genuine place for it, with a little perspective. I've found it extremely useful for recognising thought patterns, deeper causes of my emotions and for relaxation. It's good when suffering from anxiety.

I feel a little sad that professionals can recognise things like meditation and relaxation but shun this method because of it's connotations. :(

It's so frustrating having the medical community call it nonsense without looking at the bigger picture. Yes, part of it is nonsense. That doesn't stop the method itself from being a very beneficial tool.

I tried it once when I was in a day clinic. Only two or three times but when I was very shaken up and crying, it at least helped me to calm down even when I didn't - and still don't - believe in I love and accept myself or such things. I'm not sure if it really helps, I knew some people who tried it and loved it, I'm always quite sceptical. But it really helped me to calm down so it was good and helpful in that moment.
